Germany Drone Laws



Recreational / personal use:
Flying with drones for recreational / private use was authorized in Germany and is currently governed by the regulations set for flying model airplanes. An unmanned aircraft, or drones falls into the category of model airplane when the total weight of the aircraft is not more than 5 kilograms and has an electrically driven motor. For (unmanned) aircraft weighing more than 5 kilograms and / or an internal combustion engine (gasoline or diesel engine) requires a license.

Note: A driver of a model aircraft, unmanned aircraft, or drones in Germany is required to have liability insurance.

Business use:
Flying with drones for business in Germany is permitted only when the company has a special permit. The conditions and prices of this license may vary by state.
